Personal Response

Technically, this movie wasn’t my piece of cake. I didn’t think it was outstanding in any particular way. To me, it felt like just another chick flick. The colors were beautiful, though. You can tell real artists took the time to compose every shot, and that part is definitely noticeable.

On a larger scale, I did enjoy the message of the movie. It was inspiring to see the two artists follow and eventually achieve their dreams after years of feeling stuck and frustrated. They became the support system each one needed, the kind of person who lifts you up and forces you to keep going when you feel like giving up. Unfortunately, we sometimes have to fly alone. They could have had a future together, and we can dream that maybe it still happened in an alternate version of their lives, but sometimes life simply moves in different directions.

That final sympathetic look of “you did it, I did it, goodbye” was very touching. It almost made me cry because it made me reflect on my own life. Will I ever fall in love that deeply? Will I ever find someone I am extremely compatible with, only for it to be the wrong time? And then life moves on? It made me wonder.

Talking about the colors again, I think they make the movie more complex than it seems on the surface. Those bright Hollywood colors are full of joy, but the story underneath is actually very sad. The contrast is really interesting. While I liked the message, and the ending, and absolutely loved the color palette, I didn’t feel the plot was revolutionary. It wasn’t something we had never seen before. It felt very Hollywood to me, very polished, very expected. I would have liked the characters, their development, and the backstory to be a little more complex. For me, it felt a bit bland.
